Indentured servitude employed in the 17th and 18th centuries to conjure labor from Western Europe for North America and was peculiarly after the success of antislavery movements in the 1800s. Because this is coming from a British perspective, it sounds very understated on how Merivale sounds like this issue isnt very serious. In addition, document 7, states that with the security department of exemption from labor, they will be provided a free perish passage back to Calcutta. In this, it makes it sound like they are just working for their freedom making it seem like that was the only reason for these servants to continue working is to be fitted to go back to their homelands.
